Answers / Report with AI

How do I see whether my scheduled report ran?

Recipe verified on Ran on a private test instance
Short answer

Ask your AI for the report's run history: list_report_runs returns every run, newest first, with its status (ok, failed or running), the number of rows, how long it took and any error.

Steps

  1. Connect your assistant to your instance (this writes, so it needs your own instance with a ReadWrite key from the accounts portal; the public demo is read-only). In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http mcpdata https://[you].mcpdata.org/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $CDB_API_KEY"

Replace [you] with your instance's name. Other apps: Connect your AI.

  2. Ask your question. Give your AI this prompt:
Using mcpdata, did my weekly revenue report run, and did it succeed?
What your AI does: the tool calls it makes for this prompt, and what came back
create_view(name="sales.weekly_check", select_sql="SELECT order_week, SUM(revenue) AS revenue FROM Demo.Orders GROUP BY order_week") → created true, view sales.weekly_check
create_report(name="Weekly revenue (checked)", view="sales.weekly_check") → report_id 9760050ef5c3420e822d3c347afa76e3
run_report(report_id="9760050ef5c3420e822d3c347afa76e3") → status ok, rows 158
list_report_runs(report_id="9760050ef5c3420e822d3c347afa76e3") → done

The assistant needs mcpdata connected (step 1) to run the query.

Why this works

Every run, scheduled or by hand, is recorded on the server, so you don't have to search your inbox to know a report went out, and a failure comes with its error message.
